Example Letter to School Board 3: Public Participation Time

Dear School Board,

My name is ___________ and I am/was a ___________ at ____________ school.  I attended the school board meeting on June 18th and was in the audience while a number of citizens took turns giving public statements.  I noticed that many of them were not given their full two minutes and were cut off early at the microphone.  Isn’t it the school board’s job to represent the public in school planning?  How will you know the public’s values if you don’t give us time to speak?  I plan to attend the next meeting on August 27th and hope that it will be run more fairly.

Sincerely,
